Hi *ALL,
we have some APC UPSs connected to IBMi-Servers via a serial cable. Now we have the issue that we are going to centralize the monitoring of peripheral devices. For the UPSs for the IBMi-Servers we want to let them connected via serial cable but we want to monitor them via LAN. Can you give us some hints how to achieve that? Or is that not possible?
Thank you in advance!!!

What model UPSs do you have? Typically, we do not support monitoring a UPS over LAN as well as through a serial or USB connection. Depending on the model of UPS, you may be able to get away with it or you may definitely run into problems. If you can share what UPS models you're using, we can give a recommendation in addition to what Shanon mentioned.

Hello Peter,
You can certainly monitor the UPSs over the LAN using our Network Management Cards, AP930 or AP9631. With these you can actively monitor the UPSs, as well as install software on the servers that will gracefully shut them down in the event of an extended power outage.
As far as the serial cables go, you can leave them connected, but there is not really a need for them if using the NMCs. The only instances that we would use the serial cables for would be the initial configuration and any if we have to do any troubleshooting down the line on the NMCs. Other than that, everything can be done through the NMC once installed and configured.
Thanks,
Shanon
