I have a Smart-UPS 3000XL that is not communicating with Powerchute. I have tried everything except resetting the unit, as per the links below. Any ideas? Or should I try restarting the UPS unit itself?

FYI - you need to braindead because when you use USB, it "kills" the serial port until you reset/braindead the unit again. Both USB and serial cannot be used at the same time so that is why it does this.

Hi,
What is your configuration? What OS, exact model of Smart-UPS, version of PowerChute, what communications cable are you using? FA158856 indicates you would be using USB and if that is the case have you tried uninstalling PowerChute and installing using serial?

Server 2008 R2, SUA3000XL, latest version of Powerchute. Currently using a serial cable, was using a USB cable previously. I have tried an older version of Powerchute as well.

Also should mention, that it does not even show up in device manager. I have just done a webchat with support and they recommended restarting the unit. Which I would like to leave as a last resort, as its kind of a PITA.

Hi,
You need to reset / brain dead the UPS.
These are the instructions
1) Turn off and unplug UPS from wall
2) Press and hold the OFF button again
3) You may see a quick flash of the LED's and you should hear an audible "click" from the UPS.
4) Plug UPS in and turn UPS back on
Reinstall PCBE after the reset.
