APC Smart-UPS RT 5000 XL

Hello

I own a APC Smart-UPS RT 5000 XL(Serial No. QS1238250092) (Firmware 5.1 (ID5). I recently bought two SURT192XLBP Battery Packs which i have now connected to the base unit. I would like to know how to update the base unit to show the two external battery packs, so that the run time gets updated. As of now the run time is shown of the base unit only. In all manuals,it says to access the device manager through Hyper Terminal and add the battery packs via the Device Manager option. I have tried connecting it via Hyper Terminal and also via GUI, but couldn't find the device manager option. Please advise how to proceed.

Regards

Sujith Subramanian

Hi,

1 - Please provide the exact model number of the UPS. You will find that information on the bar code sticker.

2 - Is there a network management card installed in the UPS?

3 - Are you running PowerChute Business Edition and if so which version?

Hi Bill

Thanks for looking into the matter. My response below

1 - Please provide the exact model number of the UPS. You will find that information on the bar code sticker.

SURTD5000XLI

2 - Is there a network management card installed in the UPS?

Yes, The model number is AP9631 SW v6.7.2

3 - Are you running PowerChute Business Edition and if so which version?

Yes, The version is 10.0.1.301, but it always says UPS communication lost. Tried communicating through COM1 via Hyperterminal, but couldn't see any option to update information about battery packs.

Regards

Sujith

Hi,

You should be able to adjust the external battery count through the network card. Go to Configuration - UPS. There you will see External Batteries.

Hello Bill

Thanks for the support.

As you have mentioned, i did go through the UPS configuration menu. It shows as below :

External Batteries : (0-100)

Does this mean number of battery pack or in a chassis or number of chassis

I will be using Qty-2 of SURT192XLBP. Each SURT192XLBP have Qty-4 battery packs.

So should we enter this as "2" or "8" ??

Total Battery Capacity : Amp Hours (0-1000)

How much Amp hours is a SURT192XLBP unit. I read some where its 1920 Ah. If that's the case, i have to enter 3840 Ah (for Qty-2 units), which is not possible as the field accepts only 0-1000..

Please advise.

Regards

Hi,

You should enter 2 for external batteries and leave the amp hours at zero.
