APC SUA1500i with AP9619 output connectors always powered

Hello.

I have a SUA1500i with AP9619 management card, works like a charm but there is one thing:

When switching off the ups everything seems to work just fine, all lights in the front panel are switched off, some clicking noises as it but: The output connectors are still powered and there is still the light on the ethernet port of the AP9619 until the mains are disconnected. As far as I remember that is not the way it used to be or should be?

Is it possible that this behaviour has something to do with the AP 9619 card? Is this by design and I just did not recognize it earlier?

Any help is appreciated- thanks in advance!

Lutz

Hi Angela,

thanks for your answer. I'm pretty sure that this unit did work like it's supposed to be a while ago. But I figured there might a little chance that this might have been kind of a "special mode" that was possibly associated with adding the nmc.

Actually I think it might be a welded relay, will things get checked!

Thanks a lot! Best regards

Anything in the UPS SmartSlot, like the AP9619, will remain energized until the UPS completely de-energizes which happens about 8-10 minutes after AC power is missing. Or, you can manually do this process, which we usually refer to as braindeading, by holding the off button down on the front panel for a few seconds, assuming AC power is not present at the time.

Thanks for your answer.

The management card isn't the thing I'm worried about too much. But is it normal that as soon as I connect the (switched off) ups to a power chord all power connectors have power with the ups still being switched off?

Best regards

Lutz

Hi Lutz,

Yes it is, as soon as the UPS is connected to power, it is now energized, so the SmartSlot device is, though you have to command the output of the UPS (AKA the outlets) on. This is just the reverse of what I explained and is all as it should be.

Let me know if I can clarify further.

Hi Angela,

I'm sorry, but yes, it would be nice if you could clarify. You wrote

".... though you have to command the output of the UPS (AKA the outlets) on. ....."

My question is:

My UPS switched off, power cable disconnected

Putting in mains power cable

UPS still switched off, no lights on the front, no button pressed BUT

ALL OUTLETS are ON

I think you meant with "have to command the output on" pushing the "ON" button? I don't have to, my outlets are on as soon as the mains cable is connected to the UPS- no matter in which condition the UPS is.

Thanks in advance, best regards

Lutz

Hi Lutz,

This may be a concern on the UPS side versus the AP9619 then. But, are you simulating a power outage? How is the UPS being turned off - manually, or due to a low battery condition? If it is a low battery condition, then the UPS design is to turn on as soon as AC power is restored to provide power ASAP to your equipment/outlets without you having to be there to turn it on.

If you're turning it off manually or by some other means, depending on how, it may turn off and stay off until you turn it back on.

So, can you clarify in the above scenario(s), how is the UPS turning being turned off when you say "My UPS Switched off, power cable disconnected." If it is because you unplugged the UPS to test it and let it run until it turned off, that would be due to "low battery" and connecting the power cable again would restore AC power and turn the outlets on as you did not manually turn the UPS off in that scenario (using a software command or power button).

Hope that helps and makes sense embarassed

Hi Angela,

thanks a lot for your answer!

To clarify:

I can switch off the UPS via button or via network-management-card (battery full, no power fail, mains cable plugged in), all lights go off, nmc reports "UPS: The output power is turned off." but the outlets are still ON. First disconnecting the mains cable "switches" the outlets off.

And putting the mains cable into the fully charged, beforehand manually (by pressing the off- button) switched off UPS "switches" the outlets ON at once without having to push the power button.

Hope it makes sense now

Thanks in advance, best regards smile

If the UPS reports that "the UPS output power is turned off" and then the outlets are still on, then it sounds like there is a problem with the UPS (maybe the output relay?). You should be able to have the output turned off but the unit still plugged in frown

Did this ever work properly or you're not sure?
