APC SU700 Plugins Not Powering Down When Unit Turned Off

The problem I am having is when I turn the unit off there is still power going to the plugins.  I can pull the unit's cord from the wall power (commercial) and it supplies power to the two computers just fine.  I can not figure out why all of sudden the plugins are staying on when I turn the power off with the switch.  This is definitely an older unit.  Probably about 12 years old but if it still works I can not see replacing it.  Fortunately it is still relialble if there is a power outage.

When you hit the button the main board triggers the relay that actually switches on/off. Your issue could be cause by the relay. The UPS Should be safe to continue using. To turn the UPS off you could plug the UPS into a power strip. (I know we do not normally recommend using a power strip with a UPS but in this case it is a good solution.) To power down hit the power off button on the UPS and then kill AC to the UPS via the strip.

When you press the power off button does the unit continue to run on AC or does it switch to battery output? Do any of the LEDs on the front panel change?

When powered down all the leds turn off.  It is running off of AC when turned off.  If I turn the unit off and then pull the ups power plug from the commercial outlet everything powers down.  The last time I turned it off it worked properly and all power including AC was cut off.  For some reason it does work correctly once and a while.   Is there something that could be plugged in that prevents the ups from powering down?  I have tried unplugging everything and it does not seem to make any difference.  Fortunately in about 1 hour I am leaving on a 10 day sea kayaking trip in Prince William Sound so I can put this on the back burner a while.
