I am having issues setting up an AP9631 using a Gmail/Google Apps account. I have the latest firmware on the 9631 (5.1.6) but I just keep getting the following error:
"Test e-mail failed; SMTP configuration error."
Any hints or tips on getting email notifications running using a Gmail hosted email account?
Thanks.

Start at http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm and choose Firmware Upgrades - All. For a Smart UPS, choose part number SFSUMX606 or if it is a symmetra single phase, choose SFSY606.
For setting up GMail, refer to this article -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=US〈=en&id=FA164769

You can start a new thread if you want and download your config.ini and post it on the thread. Also, do you have your "last email test result" please?

I've been following this thread with interest and am pleased there is an update.
I downloaded this file:-
UPS Network Management Card v6.0.6 Firmware for Smart-UPS & Galaxy 3500 with AP9630/31 | SFSUMX606 | 04/19/2013 |
but its not suitable?
APC support site is complex and hard to get a simple download of which firmware update we need for this product. Can't we just enter a serial number and get all relevant updates like Dell does?
I have 2 APC Smart-UPS RT 6000 XL units I'd like to upgrade as we have Googlemail and I need to get alert this way.
Gmail requires authentication with a tick box and an mail address and password for this which the cards in this units don't support.
We will be buying another UPS system later this year, and whichever vendor we choose needs to support Googlemail for our error logs. Lots of people have ditched their Exchange servers, so I am surprised its been slow for an update for clients like us.

well can you verify what model of network management card you have in your Smart UPS RT 6000? If it is an AP9617/18/19 (which you can verify in the Web UI->Administration->General->About), the update will not work because its only for AP9630/31 models that are the currently manufactured management cards. AP9617/18/19 older cards have been discontinued since 2009ish now so they are no longer being given firmware updates. You'll need AP9630/31 to take advantage of this update.
Lastly, it is possible to get some Gmail functionality either older or newer cards on older firmware by going to the knowledge base (http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/ )and reviewing article ID FA164769.

It should be on the website within a week or two so no documentation is public.
Before upgrading, please review http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/index.cfm and look for article ID FA167693.
If you can tell me what application you're using - sumx or sy, I can send it to you privately.

unfortunately i dont think this will work until or next major firmware revision. google requires SSL SMTP authentication as far as I know and we don't support that currently, only basic authentication. if this were to work, you'd need to make sure you are using recipient's mail setting (versus local). you could also try relaying the NMC email to an internal, local server, and having that send it to gmail.
i have tested gmail on an early copy of new firmware, due sometime next year, and have gotten gmail to work without issue.

Do you have any idea which version this feature might be released in?....Do we need to wait for a major version upgrade to v4.x or will it be in the next minor release?...or indeed, is it in the current firmware?

I have a smart UPS 700 serial. We just switched to Gmail Apps for Education and lost the email alert feature. If your not planning to fix this would you be able to provide me with models that do have the ability to work with the Gmail system? I will update our purchasing and plan to replace some with models that work.

assuming your UPS is an SU700 or SU700NET for the exact model, AP9630 or AP9631 network management cards will be required for each UPS and our next firmware revision 6.x will work fine with gmail.

if you are using the sumx or sy app - which is for Smart UPS products and Symmetra single phase, I will most likely be able to post the firmware hopefully in December if nothing changes where it will not be on the website until later in January.

@i picKed a winna, @Angela
Any update on the availability of this? This is the only thing keeping our mx records for one domain hosted with a non-secure email provider, so we would like to update as soon as possible. Is there any way we can install a patch to provide this functionality to our 3000 XLI UPS?

sorry for the delay. for the sumx application and the new 6.x interface, we are looking at December as it stands today 😞 there is no way to provide a patch to the system unfortunately, it'd require a firmware update.

You could temporarily run a SMTP server (perhaps [one of these|http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30076/need-a-lightweight-free-windows-smtp-server]) to relay mail to the gmail account, and lock it down so only the NMC has access to it.

I keep saying one thing yet it moves out so I apologize. Third week in April is what I have now. I also had put together article FA164769 in the knowledge base to try and give users the best chance of GMail and other services to work depending on what ports are open on your network or from your ISP.
