Yesterday is suddenly got a series of UPS online/Warmstart alerts in my email from my AP9617 in a Matrix 5000.
Now the AP9617 unit is not staying online (using network or serial) for longer than a few minutes at a time.
Most of the time it's down. (green light off during these times too)
Is this the kind of behavior that a bad battery would produce?
I have the latest firmware on all my AP9617 cards.
I even have configured them using the INI upload utility, and merely changed thier name and IP address.
All settigns therefore are identical.
Any thoughts from anyone on why this AP9617 would flap like this?

Re-flashing to either restore the same aos/sumx rev or upgrade to 3.7.3/3.7.2 was going to be my suggestion - Gustavoc36 kindly beat me too it !
And yes if the firmware is very old (prior to 2.1.0 or something) you have to do it in stages. Older firmware revs are still available at APC's ftp site. ftp://ftp.apcc.com/apc/public/hardware/
Another thought that came to mind, is that if this is a very old Matrix ( IE 1993/94/95) they had an issue where the nmc card would sometimes starve the controller of power , so the recommendation was to install it in an AP9600 chassis with external power adapter. We still have a few Matrixes this old in service - amazing longevity !

can you tell me the first few digits of the serial number on this AP9617? something like BA0834?
Also, can you please provide the event.txt for us to look at? that will give me some insight. you can download it via [this method|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=9321] if you are unsure of how to do it.
also, [this knowledgebase article|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2572] explains what a warmstart is and what can cause it, FYI.

hmm ok. do you think you could reseat the card - meaning pull it out of the UPS for about 30 secs to a min and reinsert it into the slot? proper procedure on a Matrix is to put the UPS in bypass, reseat it, then take the UPS out of bypass. from my experience though, you should be just fine to reseat it though without going to bypass if you don't want to.
you said the status LED goes out when it does this - do you see it flashing rapidly indicating its definitely rebooting? i just want to make sure youre definitely looking at the LED with the X or checkmark next to it versus the 10/100 link LED, correct?
if you do a constant ping on the card, about how many ping responses will it stay up for?

Definately looking at the righthand led.
It stats off all the time, not rebooting.
Pings shoe it's up for about 30-60 seconds, then dies.
Serial follows shortly after.
Card never recovers unless it reseat it. Then it repeats.
I have almost 6 of these. This is the only bad one so far.

yeah its not normal, just wondering how we can fix it. if you cant catch the event log via FTP, can you gain serial or telnet access long enough to hit CTRL and L to view the event log and see what its doing? it sounds like it is an unrecoverable firmware error to be honest with you and may need to be replaced pending what you find in the event log. 😕

what do you mean? i mean getting (purchasing) a new/used AP9617 or a new, current AP9630.

Ah, yes, well...
I was hoping to avoid that.
Let me see what i can do about being fast enough to get the event log.
