I have a bunch of AP9606 and would like to differentiate between loss of utility power and a smartboost or smart trim. We have the AP9606 set to send a text message for severe alerts, but an e-mail for warning alerts. The problem is the AP9606 classifies loss of utility power and a smartboost or smarttrim as a warning alert. I want to receive text messages for loss of utility power so we can take immediate appropriate action, but don’t think we need to receive a smartboost or smarttrim alert at 3:00 AM. Is there any way to accomplish this with the AP9606?
I have thought about methods of alerting the IT staff besides e-mail direct from the AP9606, but would prefer to KISS with the AP9606. If anyone has suggestions on another simple method of accomplishing the alerts described above, I would love to hear about them.
Thanks,
Jeff

We do have a few newer cards, I can see where the new features will be helpful.
When you said the latest firmware wouldn't allow changing the severity of an event, you didn't mean an older version of the firmware would allow us to change the severity, did you?
Thanks,
Jeff

Unfortunately the alerts aren't as individually configurable on the AP9606 as you'd like... though they are on the newer cards.
Do you have an SNMP server? Maybe you could setup alerts from there based on traps received from the AP9606 (if it has that option)?

hmm, i was going to say you could try and change the severity of each type of event but the latest firmware on the AP9606 doesnt allow you to do that.
i don't want to tell you to go out and purchase all new products but all of our current generation network management cards allow you to customize alerts like this to certain people/groups. this was not implemented in the AP9606 which is very old and outdated (to be completely honest). it gets the basic job done though.
i am not sure you will be able to do what you want since AP9606 because it only allows you to configure event alerts by severity and not by type (such as power events, etc) like our new generation stuff does.
maybe someone else has an idea 😞

Thanks.
I hadn't thought about a SNMP server, will have to take a look at the options. We use Kiwi Syslog server, the free edition which won't allow (AFAIK) sending notifications.
Lot's of money in the cards...
You sparked some thinking--I wonder if the e-mail server can filter based on subject line?
What a pain, trying to stay on top of this. If we don't accept the warning, then we don't know when the power is out, until the UPS signals low battery. But I don't think Smartboost/trim is a critical notification.
I have also thought about changing the point where Smartboost/trim kicks in. Wonder where the servers would start to experience problems?
Thanks,
Jeff
