We have four AP7930 PDU's and there is one which recently started alerting that is lost communication, then immediately says it's established.
I've updated the firmware to the latest this morning, but the issue happened after the update. Some have suggested powering the device fully down, to try to resolve the issue. I haven't tried that, as it's in production. Are there any other suggestions?
Thank you,
Bill

Yes, these are older units. Thanks for the information. I'll take this into consideration for our future plans.

Hi Bill - what are the first six digits of the serial number on this PDU? You can find the serial number under Administration->General->About menu in the web.
This is usually an indication of an internal communications failure that likely will require replacement of the unit. The network management card is having trouble maintaining communication to the internal components of the PDU (relay boards, etc). I asked about the serial number so I can check the age of the PDU and determine if it is older - which the likelihood of this occurring goes up as the unit ages over time - or if it is under warranty which means it could be replaced under a warranty.

Angela,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The serial number starts with: ZA0606
Best,
Bill

Hi Bill - OK, that means this was build in the 6th week of 2006 - first two digits are the year, second are the week in that year.
So, it is about 11 years old now. I would plan to replace this unit as soon as you can, which AP7930B is replacing this model - it has an upgraded Network Management Interface (better security, new features, etc). You may still be able to find AP7930 somewhere though too.
With the other three units, this issue could pop up on those too based on their age and if they've been installed in the same environment, have the same load, etc. Also, beware that if the unit is in a "lost communication state" and the network management card interface is rebooted, this could cause a loss of power to the outlets. The network management card energizes the relays upon its reboot as the relays are normally open. If the management card cannot establish communication to the relay boards, the outlets won't turn back on as the relays are normally open.
Let me know if you have any questions on this.
