Hi
I just installed a new Smart UPS 1500.
Connected to a DELL workstation.
Running Windows 7 x64 SP1.
Installed PowerChute Business Edition 9.01.
Installed Agent, installed Server, installed Console, all on same machine.
Want to configure SMTP notification.
Now way to enable SSL/TLS or configure port number.
Logged into console.
Pretty ugly UI, does not allow resizing of window, must come from the days when skinning UI's were the cool thing to do.
I get two warning messages; I need to configure the outlet grouping, and I need to configure the shutdown sequence.
Ok, I go to that section, and I get 404 error pages in the embedded IE window.
I open the agent directly using Chrome, and I get a warning that the certificate is not trusted, continue anyway.
Now I can configure shutdown sequence and outlet grouping.
Is it the bad SSL certs that is preventing the console from letting me configure?
If so, really bad first experience.
Want to register UPS.
How do I see and copy-n-paste the serial number of the UPS?
Console shows me the serial number, but it is read only, no copy.
Agent web console does not show any UPS details.
Want to run runtime calibration.
Start test, UPS starts beeping.
Where do I remotely silence the alarm, can't find any place to silence the alarm?
Have to walk to UPS to silence it.
I see there is an announcement for new Beta software, I sure hope the software usability is updated.
Ok, enough complaining.
How do I configure SSL/TLS and SMTP port number to use?
How do I access the agent configuration and not get 404 pages?
How do I get details of the hardware in a form I can copy-n-paste?
How do I remotely silence the alarm?
P.

there are also other firmware upgrade options available that do not require windows, outlined here-> http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/768

hello,
I mainly stick with the agent and that is what i will try to help with. the console portion of the software is going away eventually and we will be sticking with just the agent portion via the web browser.
1.) PCBE does not currently support SSL/TLS email authentication or changing the port number - don't shoot the messenger. Both are on the roadmap for a furture release as far as I know. just FYI, our network management cards support changing the port today but also only support basic authentication. on those, SSL/TLS is due at the end of the year in our next major revision.
2.) I would just deal with the agent directly. i believe the SSL certs come up as untrusted because they are created based on the hostname of the computer when you install the software. this there is really no way to get past this besides adding it as a trusted cert or exception. i don't think this is causing the 404. if you can stick with the agent config via web browser, let's do that.
3.) by accessing the agent via web UI, - which means going to the IP address or hostname of the server where its installed on by a.) https://
4.) to configure the silencing of the alarm, click on the UPS name on the left i.e. where it says Smart UPS 1500 or similar, and go to Configuration and you'll see "General Settings" on this page. you'll see Audible alarm and the available configuration options of when you want to hear it.
hope that helps a bit. sorry for the troubles.

Thank you.
I found the serial number and could copy it, quite obvious where to look now that I think about it 😉
I did notice the alarm configuration option, and it was set to at power fail, but the UPS still beeped every couple of seconds.
I had to click the navigation button on the UPS front panel, and then the UPS showed silenced, and it stopped beeping.
A silence alarm action button would be more useful than turning the alarm of permanently.
Too bad about the network management card also not supporting SSL/TLS/post config, I already ordered one for unattended notification, that was a fail.

what was the UPS beeping pattern? did you put the UPS on battery to test the beeping or something? i am puzzled as to what settings you are trying to apply and why it is not taking.
NMC2 will at least support the email stuff at the end of the year so its on the horizon.

I installed the NMC2 today, yep, no SSL/TLS/port config for email 😞
Had some trouble finding it on the network, tried the IP detect utility v3 that came on the CD, and the v5 utility I downloaded, neither detected the device. In the end I got the IP from the DHCP server.
I upgraded the firmware to 5.17, and I see the new Schneider branding, and a web option for firmware updates, still requires FTP'in the image, should really be made much simpler to upload images using web interface, vs. requiring me to use a Windows PC to update the firmware.
Looking forward to secure email support, vanilla SMTP is blocked by our FW policy.
