I heard a solid beep coming from one of my racks last week, and discovered that it was a Smart-UPS 1400RM2U. Turning the power off alone didn't stop the beep - I had to also unplug the battery tray.
I replaced the batteries, but as soon as I plugged in the tray, the beeping started again.. even before powering on the unit. I used the WebUI to access the logs, and there's nothing out of the ordinary. The interface says everything is fine... the loud solid beep says otherwise.
If I plug in the main outlet without the battery tray hooked up, the unit is unresponsive. As soon as I connect the batteries, regardless of whether or not it's plugged into the wall, it beeps.
I've opened the unit and all the caps visually look OK.
Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting?

Hey Steve,
Sorry to hear your having some trouble.
The constant tone coming from the unit usually indicates a overload on the unit, meaning the attached equipment is drawing more power than the unit is designed to support. However if there was an overload you should see this reflected in the web interface and in the logs. Additionally, these older style units require good batteries installed in the unit to be able to turn on, simply plugging the unit into the wall without the batteries attached will give no response.
First I would try is to remove the attached devices one by one to see if constant tone stops. If that doesn't yield any good results we can try to reset the unit via a Brain Dead.

Thanks, Tom. The problem occurred even with no loads.
But it's been sitting here powered off in my office for a few days, and when I fired it up just now to test this... seems to be working fine. LOL
I'll run some tests on it now...

Well, OK. Seems it needed to sit dead in my office for a while! 🙂
Doing a runtime calibration on it now... I'll be watching closely. 🙂
