Wiser for KNX - Objects not updating

Hi everyone,

We're facing a quite unusual behavior on the Wiser devices installed at a KNX project.

At first, the partner reported that after FW upgrade to version 2.3 (it's a HW version 1) the objects / group addresses ceased to update automatically, or updated only with an unacceptable delay - several minutes. Note that after FW upgrade no changes were made to ETS or any configs.

We've temporarily replaced it with a homeLYnk and with no changes made to ETS or without any tunes to hL settings, the new device runs normally - objects update immediately.

Last week, we've sent a deffinitive W4K to the site, HW version 2, FW 2.3, previously tested at our lab and working fine, which ended up with the same behaviour as described in the 1st paragraph. Once again, no changes were made neither to ETS or object polling rates or comm tuning policies.

Do you have any idea on what might be the cause of this behavior?

Looking forward to hear from you pople.

Thanks, cheers!

Hi everyone,

As a courtesy, we've replaced the product to our client. Same project, same settings, and it's been running for a while with no further issues reported.

Thanks,

JC

Hello @Anonymous user

What first comes to mind, just to rule out the basics.

Have you measured the KNX TP bus load where the HL/W4K is connected? Any repeats? High load?

Have you done a bus monitor/group monitor via ETS, to control 1:1 if and when a GA is updated on the TP bus, if that is also the case for the HL/W4K object? Or if you write to a GA from ETS, and see if the HL/W4K object updates.

Hi @Jakob_Pedersen,

Bus load is around 10%. Bus has only 57 devices so, nothing serious.

To give you a clearer view on what we have, for each command GA we have its respective status GA. If we update the command GA on ETS, it automatically updates it on W4K, the status GA remains unchanged though. Same applies in ETS, where the command GA is logged but no status GA update is triggered.

When we write from W4K, same exact behaviour.

Even tried different KNX addresses, 15.15.255 and 1.1.x (in the line range) - should it be any telegram issue.

To rule out any programming faults on the original project, we've created a simple new project, 2 devices (4key sensor and actuator) imported into W4K and we get the same behaviour - GA not updating.

Now let's add an interesting fact 🙂 if we physically remove W4K from the line and use a USB interface - both in original and test project - behaviour is as expected. Command triggers an immediate status GA update.

This really is puzzling me.

Hm, sound puzzling indeed. Feel free to share the project, that would make it easier to understand the programming.

Hello, I encountered a similar problem on my desk, but I haven't found a solution so far. Tell me, when you click the icon (as shown in attached screenshot, the list of objects is updated correctly?

Tbh I haven't tried it, but I assume it does update correctly, as I've configured a couple of objects as polling objects - every 2 sec or so, and they update correctly as well.

Hi,

when you say that everything is working correctly when W4K is  not connected.

Did you tried it with an other W4K? Just to try to find the rootcause?

Kind regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Yep, let me resume all the steps the partner took:

1. First supply of W4K v2.1, worked fine for a few months - failed after FW update to v2.3, when we first noticed this object update issue;

2. Installed, temporarily, a homeLYnk - FW v2.3 - working with no problems at all;

3. Re-installed a different W4K, merely as a cosmetic measure, to be consistent with our fist offer - same issue as in pt.1; Note that this Wiser was previously tested, before we delivered it to the client;

4. Revert back to homeLYnk;

This, unfortunately, is a project already at a production stage, so we can't have access for long periods.

I'll have the W4K we've used in steps 1 and 3 back to the office soon, I'll perform a few more tests then and keep you posted on the results.

Thanks!

Cheers,

JCrasto
