Hello,
We have an opportunity to develop a lighting control project in a very famous bridge in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro City: the Rio-Niterói Bridge (www.ecoponte.com.br). The functionality is quite simple. lighting control using 1-10V concept. We are worried concerning the critical conditions where the knx modules will be installed. The IS asked some questions about KNX characteristcs, and I believe, the most importants are about vibration and temperature (+50ºC is a normal temperature condition there). The bridge has a 13km extension, so they are asking us if the knx solution would be the best solution, or if we could use a industrial solution (PLC) to avoid future issues instead. Someone have an opinion to assist us to decide how to handle it? Maybe the best solution is an industrial one?
Many thanks, in advance!

Hello Paulo
When looking at the datasheet of our KNX products you usually see that they can be operated up to a temperature of 45°C. This limit is coming from general rules for KNX products. Due to that the products are not tested with higher temperature.
Same with vibrations: the test rules for KNX products do not contain any rules for operating in an environment with vibrations.
So finally it might be that the products would be suited to work in such environment. But as it is not tested you can not rely on that and thus, you are not able to plan such solution.
Best regards
Heribert

Hello Mr. Doelger,
Our decision was based exactly on the reasons you mentioned. We are still in the project, however with a schneider industrial solution.
Many thanks for reply!
