Smart Connector - Server Connections

Hello,

I have the following questions about Smart Connectors:

1. Can a smart connectors be added to an Enterprise Central? I have review the EC specification sheet and there is no option for smart connectors as add-ons. It only seams to be available for ES and AS.

2. If we need to communicate a ES or EC using two smart connectors, one smart connector to read data from an SNMP network and another smart connector to connect to an OPC server, besides of the individual licenses for each smart connector, How many framework licenses (SXWSWSCDL100001) do we need? just one or two.

3. Is it possible to install the smart connector service on a different server of the ES?

Hi @Alvaro_Olarte,

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, Smart Connector works with the EC.

2. If you need to work with multiple different Smart Connector extensions, you should be able to install both on the same Smart Connector instance. So you will only need 1 framework license. However, if you want to install them on two different PC's, you will need 2. You will also need to get the licenses for the extensions themselves.

3. Yes, it is possible to install Smart Connector on a different computer. We generally recommend installing Smart Connector on the same machine as EBO, as the PC already exists, so in most cases it makes sense to use it, but it can in theory be installed anywhere that has network access to EBO.

Best Regards,

-Jeff

Hi @Erwin-vd-Zwart,

Kind of true.

This is only true if you are using SQLEXPRESS for the database. In that case the Database needs to be on the same machine as Smart Connector.

If you use a full SQL server install, then the database does not need to be on the same machine.

Best Regards,

-Jeff
