Rooms stat and trv comms.

Morning all.

Quick question.

In one of my rooms I have a Wiser room stat and three Wiser TRVs, all designated "kitchen".

I am presuming that when the room is set up this way that each TRV will communicate directly with the room stat, and that, in turn, the room stat will communicate directly with the Hub. Therefore, the distance from the Hub, as regards the TRVs is irrelevant?

The reason I ask is that the last rad is quite far from the Hub, through thick walls etc, and loses signal...but then room stat is maintaining a  signal. The TRVs are close enough to the room stat...why would the last rad lose signal?

Thanks in advance and happy Christmas.

My understanding is that the TRV's don't communicate with the RS. The RS gives you a more accurate reading of the the room depending on where it is placed, and it calls for heat the Hub then commands the TRV's to open until the RS temp is satisfied.
The seconmd part of your question regarding the comms, all devices talk to the hub not each other. you can pair items as yoiu have done but it will be the RS that decides on the temp. for that rad that is losing signal you woiuld be better placed getting a smartplug extender as that will allow the furhtest rad to gett a better signal.

Brian,

Thanks for your reply.

My system is Hub 2, 13 TRVs, 2 room stats and 2 smart plugs.

My house is single storey, very old with 2Γ—50 cm stone walls in the middle.

The hubs is on one side of the stone walls with 3 of the TRVs, the rest being dispersed the other side of one stone wall and the furthest away being beyond another stone wall.

I have had all working at various times...but, the smart plugs are very temperamental and lose connection all too often. Andcwhen they lose connection the radiators on tge farthest away room, done 45 feet from the Hub, lose connection.

Currently the smart plugs are after the first stone wall and again after the second stone wall.

I am wondering whether to have another smart plug before the first stone wall.

It's just a little frustrating, I have had the system got about 3-4 years and love it. But, it does appear that unless you have an anorak somewhere in the house it is not plain sailing

I would certainly try another plug before the 1st wall. You could at first just try moving one of your current one's before that wall and see if that moproves matters. they do talk to each other so 1 getting a strong signal form the hub could help with the signal to the 2nd

Brian,

Thanks again for taking the time to make your replies.

You are correct. After your last reply I did indeed move the farthest plug to the same side of the first wall as the Hub. The good news is I have not had a signal outage on either since then.

So, I have ordered another plug to complete the system since the farthest TRVs come and go.

Thanks @Ciaran & @BrianT58 for your post & answers.

In fact, all battery powered devices have to communicate directly with the Hub and cannot relay the messages from other devices. Only mains powered devices can relay the messages of other devices. In your case you should install a smart plug half between the iTRV and the hub.
