On/off load compensation option is for OpenTherm boilers only.
The control type option has been missing on the app since v6.1 but at least we can now see the heat source type which v6.1 broke but v6.2 fixed.

How do I set mode to OpenTherm ? on app version 6.2, this is what it shows in devices.
Next to "Control Type", where you have a ❓, there's supposed to be a ✏️ to click on. The app. I'm using then offers "Relay", "OpenTherm" and "On/Off load compensation" (whatever that is). (I'm sure you know, but OpenTherm requires the appropriate wiring between Hubʀ and Boiler to be in place).
I've fallen back to an ancient version of the App (5.4.2) 'cos the recent releases have been annoying the hėll out of me, as in ("Your house is looking empty, let's get started"...), every time I fire it up 😕

To answer my own question, I found this explanation .
On/Off load compensation is a proven method of minimising energy use by calculating the demand from a thermostat. As the temperature approaches the required setting, the boiler will fire for shorter periods of time, ensuring a constant temperature is maintained. This not only enhances comfort levels, but also uses less energy. On/Off load compensating products are ideal for use with modern systems in well-insulated houses.
Which is what I thought it did by default anyway!
It transpires it's not available for Oil Boilers - which is why I've never seen it before. Having lied and set my system to Gas Boiler, it's probably a better setting than Relay. What could possibly go wrong? 🤔

If they're trying to say that "level 1" broke it, I doubt it - my money would be on their last firmware roll-out, with the wrong defaults set. 🙄

well, got another call from tech, said it should be fixed, the app still shows ? but boiler is firing :), and flow temps is not bad
Room Stats seem to give better flow rate than TRV's for some reason. might have to invest in more room stats.

I'm using App version 6.2 and get the pencil icon next to Control Type, but touching it doesnt do anything, it's just there for decoration. This isnt a problem for me at the moment as I'm operating in the default relay mode.
I do wonder how good/compatible the Wiser Opentherm implementation is giving how poor their firmware and app seem to be, so I think I'll stick with relay mode despite my combi having Opentherm.

let hope 6.3 fixes it :), my flow rates are not as low as they got in Tado˚ (26˚c), but I can hope Wiser improve thier OpenTherm load demand curves.

Hello, I notice you are using HA and have the Wiser app. How did you get the flow return working? I have my Wiser on opentherm but my return temp is showing Unknown.
