[Imported] Set the clock in J Series ethernet radios

This is a re-posting from the obsoleted (October 2018) "Schneider Electric Telemetry & SCADA" forum.

------------------

**_jweder:
The J Series Ethernet/Serial radio has an internal clock, used to time stamp diagnostic log entries. This clock will start at January 1, 1970 when the radio is new or after a factory boot, unless told otherwise by an NTP (Network Time Protocol) server. Knowing that the time in the logs is accurate can help a technician to pinpoint when a problem began, and to monitor the ongoing condition of the radio.
Currently the only way to set the time in J Series is by telling the radio to sync with an NTP server. This is configured near the bottom of the Network Setup page, by enabling the NTP Client in the radio and then specifying an NTP server's IP address or domain name.
It is possible to configure a Windows PC to act as an NTP server. In this topic we will show you how to configure Windows XP, as it is still in use by many people. The information below is taken from Microsoft's knowledgebase article #314054. A search of the knowledgebase should find information on how to accomplish this for other operating systems.
**NOTE:** Please ensure you document the old values for the parameters to be changed before editing them, in case you need to turn off this feature._**

**CAUTION** Serious problems could occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\W32Time\\Config\\
3. In the right pane, right-click AnnounceFlags, and then click Modify.
4. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, under Value data, type 5, and then click OK.
5. Enable NTPServer.
a. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\W32Time\\TimeProviders\\NtpServer\\
b. In the right pane, right-click Enabled, and then click Modify.
c. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 under Value data, and then click OK.
d. **For Windows 7 ONLY**: Set this registry key to a value of "0"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\W32Time\\TimeProviders\\VMICTimeProvider\\Enabled
6. Exit Registry Editor.
7. At the command prompt, type the following command to restart the Windows Time service, and then press ENTER:
net stop w32time && net start w32time

Here's a link to the Microsoft knowledgebase article which provides the instructions for a Win XP machine: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314054

Please note that it is the individual's responsibility to ensure they follow the instructions carefully and know how to use the Windows Registry Editor. If you are not comfortable with this, discuss it with your company IT department.

If you have any issues please feel free to contact our Tech Support team at 1-888-226-6876, or by email at SupportTRSS[at]schneider-electric.com
