All Trio data radios may be polled locally for diagnostic information, or remotely if installed in a working system. In a serial network (Ex450, MR450 or K Series) the System port is used. With a J Series radio, serial port B may be easily configured to act as a System port. However it is more common today to perform diagnostics of Ethernet-based radios using a LAN connection.

Trio has two radios with Ethernet capability - the J Series 900 MHz/2.4 GHz unlicensed radio and the E Series (Ex45e) licensed 400 MHz band radio. Ethernet diagnostic configuration works the same for both products, though the interface is different.

It must first be decided which radio will be the Diagnostics gateway into the radio network, to which the Diagnostics PC will be directly connected. This is the only radio which should have the "eDiags" feature enabled. This radio will forward messages to other radios using Trio's unique Diagnostics protocol.

**Ex45e Radio Configuration**:
Open the TView+ Management Suite
Select the E Series Programmer
Connect to the gateway radio serially and click Read (local radio)
Click on Diagnostics Setup
Click the checkbox to enable eDiags
Enter the IP address of the PC which will run the Diagnostics software
The default local and controller IP port number of 1040 should be acceptable
Click Ok, save the configuration, then click Write to send it to the radio

**JR900/JR240 Radio Configuration**:
Open a web browser
Connect an Ethernet cable to the gateway radio
Enter the IP address of the gateway radio
Click on the Setup menu
Select the eDiags configuration page
Click the Enable button
Enter the IP address of the PC which will run the Diagnostics software
The default local and controller IP port number of 1040 should be acceptable
Click Activate Configuration
Once the configuration changes have been activated, save the configuration

**TView+ Diagnostics Software Configuration**:
Open the TView+ Management Suite
Select the Diagnostics software tool
In the Settings menu, select eDiags Port Settings
Enter the PC's own IP address in the Local IP setting
The default eDiags port number of 1040 should be acceptable
Click Apply Changes and then Exit
In the File menu, select New
Choose a location to save the radio database and enter a name, then click Save
In the database dialog which appears enter the name and serial number of the gateway radio
Select the appropriate radio model
Select eDiags (Ethernet) for the Communications Port
For the Remote IP address enter the IP address of the gateway radio
The default Remote Port Number of 1040 should be acceptable
Modify the Alarm Limits for your radio system if desired
Click Apply Changes To Database
To add more radios click Add New

Other radios may be added in the same manner, but always specifying the IP address of the radio which is the Diagnostics gateway into the radio system. All other radios must be added in the same manner. In all cases enter the IP address of the "gateway" radio to which the Diagnostics PC is directly connected, not the IP address of the new radio being added. The Access Point is often the Diagnostics gateway to the radio system.

If it is desired to connect the TView+ Diagnostics PC to a Remote radio this is allowable. In that case eDiags must be enabled only in that Remote radio and not the Access Point. Also then the Remote radio's IP address would be used in each database entry.

In an E Series system, if a radio other than the Access Point is used as the Diagnostics gateway, the Access Point radio's Repeat Diagnostic Messages parameter must be enabled.

CAUTION: If eDiags is enabled in more than one radio in a system this may cause extra unwanted traffic which will reduce the available bandwidth for user data.
