Fault locator function - Easergy P3 U30

Hi,

 

In which types of MV grid regarding Neutral earthing is the fault locator function (Easergy P3) applicable?

Dear @hasanmuftic,

 

the fault locator can be used for radially operated MV networks. For short circuit fault the network star point connection doesn't matter. It means, the fault locator can be used for all type of radially operated networks.

 

For earth fault distance location answer in not that simple anymore. In principle, the locator can be used for all type of network. Difficulties will arise from uncertainty of zero sequence impedance. For overhead lines the zero sequence impedance is not well know. For cable networks the zero sequence impedance is known more accurately.
