PowerLogic T300 - transfer between IEC 101 and IEC 104 communication links

Hello everyone,

In my current T300 project, if the IEC 104 channel is broken then the IEC 101 one should start running.

  • Is there any setting that could be done in T300 in order to make this automatic (if IEC 104 link is down then IEC 101 should come up)?
  • Or this transfer between communication links should be SCADAs and/or modems' responsibility?

    Any suggestion would be helpful.

    Thank you in advance.

Hi Milica

Would be very useful to know your real application case as requested by Jean-Yves

Is there any legacy habit there?

Generally speaking, it is SCADA/Client responsibility to switch from one channel to another: therefore there is no automatic switching for IEC104/ 101 at T300 level.

The link notion referred by Manuel is applicable to DNP3 protocol

Hi Milica,

In T300 catalogue, page 29 you can find:

Channel association - Links
Some control centers or IEDs support double channels. The functionality can be
different for each protocol. The links are associations of two channels and they are
used to identify a double channel. Two modes of channels switching are possible:
• AutoSwitch: used with slave protocols. When the active channel stops receiving,
it switches to the other channel, which becomes active
• SwitchByMaster: used with the master protocol, the HU250 controls the channel
switching. A periodic switching between channels can be defined in order to
verify channel state TIME_FORCE_SWITCH

Hello Milica,

Like always, the devil is in the details so please provide the following a drawing of your communication architecture (from remote SCADA/DMS/ADMS to Easergy T300), including what modems are used (on the IEC 101 and on the IEC 104 links).

Thank you

Thank you Milica,

What I was looking for in reality, is the logical communication architecture between the remote SCADA and the T300.

In addition I don't see what is the IEC 101 link here (is it over TCP?).

Regards,

Jean-Yves

@JYPOC  Yes it is IEC101 over TCP/IP.

@jean-luc_batard  Thanks for this the information.

This is old SCADA system at it is still not clear what are the intentions of end customer with IEC101/104. We are still trying to clarify with them what is behind with "transfer link" part. All we know that they want to have two links main and backup: IEC101 serial, and IEC101 over TCP if we understood correctly.

Best regards and thank you very much for help.
