Network Requirements

If your SmartConnect-compatible UPS is installed in an enterprise location, it may require additional network configuration to allow your UPS to connect to Schneider Electric cloud services.

IPv4 DHCP Server

An APC Smart-UPS device requires an IPv4 DHCP server on its network to assign an IPv4 address to the device so it can connect to the Internet.

Network MTU

The router and switch on the network of the APC Smart-UPS device must support a Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size of 336 bytes, at a minimum.

Network Firewall and Proxy Server

Schneider Electric strongly recommends that the device is not exposed to the public internet and is deployed behind an appropriate Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall.

To connect to Schneider Electric cloud services, the UPS needs to be able to connect directly to TCP port 443 on cece.prod.struxurewarecloud.com AND lwm2m.na.struxurewarecloud.com.

If the network of the UPS is behind a proxy server (e.g. ZScaler), you must add a firewall rule that permits this connection to TCP port 443, and bypasses any proxy service packet inspection. Consult with your Network Administrator to configure this firewall rule.

Network Switch Port Speed

SmartConnect-compatible UPS devices only support 10/100 Mbps port speed. If you are using a 1Gb network switch, and the port is not set to auto-configure its speed, this can prevent the device from connecting to Schneider Electric cloud services.

Network Devices Connected to the UPS

NOTE: If your UPS is providing power protection to network devices (e.g. network switch, router) connected to an outlet group:
  • Do not configure outlet group shutdown for that outlet group in response to UPS events, via PowerChute Network Shutdown, or PowerChute Serial Shutdown.
  • Do not configure Load Shedding for that outlet group.
If the network devices that provide internet connectivity to the UPS are turned off during a UPS event:
  • Schneider Electric cloud services are not informed of the event, due to the loss of internet connectivity.
  • UPS events, including those that trigger Load Shedding or shutdown as configured in PowerChute, are not displayed on the web portal status page, or in the event log, and no event email notifications are sent.
As a result, the web portal cannot inform you that UPS events are occurring, and if power is not restored to the network devices, a "Communication Lost" event occurs. See Critical UPS Events for more information.
