ECODIAL CABLE CALCULATION

I guess it is looking for the Spe> Sph / 2 condition when making ecodial cable calculations. In sections below half of the phase conductor, the protection conductor section gives insufficient warning. Is it true?

Thanks for your query on the 'Ecodial Cable Calculation.'

 

Automatic Sizing : 

 

There are two verifications done by Ecodial

 

  1. The automatic sizing of PE conductor is done by respecting the table A.54 of IEC60364-4-54

  1. Then this smallest possible size of PE conductor is also verified, for its thermal withstand against the probable earth fault current (Ief)

Manual Selection : 

 

Once if the PE conductor is manually selected by the user (which is much smaller than the size suggested by table A.54 IEC 60364-5-54) and the verification of the thermal withstand is also not met then – the application is not accepting the selection.

Ecostructure Ecodial - Residential Reticulation Sample

 

I would like to see a tutorial on an actual electrical residential installation.

 

From a normal mini substation / transformer, with kiosks/DB boards, and up to the end user home DB, excluding internal unit design. 

Load estimations

diversity factor for amount of houses/loads

cable calculations

voltage drops

kA ratings.

 

Are there any tutorials of this type out there?

 

None of the Schneider tutorials cover this completely.

 

Please assist as I would like to use this software to show the local electrical authority in south africa the calculation figures.

There examples resolved for various scenarios, but they are specific in nature based on the 'load matrix' and the application.

So, we do not have a video - which is specific to a residential complex.

 

The kind suggestion is ; to kindly comeback to us with the specific load matrix of your example (residential complex); we would be able to assist you in getting the "electrical network solution."

Hello There, 

 

Thanks for the response, 

 

Can we please do an example on the following easy network and loads.

 

Scenario:

Direct from a 11kV/400v  500kVA mini sub station, on the busbars on the 400V side, a circuit breaker feeding a 12 way kiosk, with an LV cable. The cable is 55m long.

 

From the 12 way kiosk, there are single feeds to consumer DB boards with 60A single phase loads each.

 

cable lengths are as follows in meters:

19

34,7

43,7

62,2

62,2

80,3

80,3

74,3

64,6

54,9

45,1

35,5

Thus there are 12 residential units, all fed from a 12 way kiosk, which is in turn fed from the minisub LV side.

 

Notes:

- The 60A loads are not full loads, but residential circuit breaker sizes, which will have to be diversified load.

- Diversity of 12 residential units is 0.57 in our national standard.

- I am not sure where to put the diversity, on the busbars, or on the loads, or on both.

- the percentage voltage drop from the minisub to the end unit DB, cannot be more than 7.5%

Here is our comments;

 

Scenario 01: 

The scenario is specific where all the single phase loads are connected only to L1-N.

 

Step 1 : 

All the loads (60A) are connected to the same line (L1 - N); will leads to the total demand as 499 kVA.

The diversity is 1.0 by default at the application. So, The proposed transformer rating is 500 kVA.

Step 2 : 

 

The diversity (0.57 as per your country standard) must be applied to the Main Switchboard level.

This has optimized the "actual demand" as 284 kVA. So, 

The proposed transformer rating is 300 kVA. (after applied the diversity)

Scenario 2 : 

This scenario is so specific, that all the single phase loads are "distributed evenly among all the 3 phases" between (L1-N and L2-N and L3-N); Defined by the 'Connection as Automatic' as shown in the image.

 

Step 1:

All the loads (60A) are  distributed evenly between the 3 phases. 

The diversity is 1.0 by default at the application.

This leads to the total demand as 166 kVA.

So, The proposed transformer rating is 250 kVA.

Step 2:

All the loads (60A) are  distributed evenly between the 3 phases.

The diversity is 0.57 is applied at the switchboard level.

This leads to the actual demand as 94.8 kVA

So, The proposed transformer rating is 100 kVA

Conclusion : 

  • The Diversity Factor is helping you to optimize the source sizing. 
  • However the connection (Either loading only a single line Or Distributing between all the 3 lines) is also important to get the optimized source sizing.

I will then in future use the diversity on the main busbar of the kiosk. If there are more kiosks, do I put the diversity on each of the busbars downstream?

 

Also I see I do not need to put in an extra busbar between the minisub and the 12way kiosk as I did.

 

I am interested in the kA ratings three phase and single phase to size the circuit breakers.

Hello,

 

The "Diversity Factor" should be applied at the "Switchboard" (where we have more than one load/feeders are connected).

 

  • In my example; I have only one switchboard (which was a main switchboard), So I have applied the diversity factor at that switchboard.
  • As per your "single line diagram," you should apply the diversity at 'switch board' where all the load circuits (22, 23, 24...) are connected.
