ComPacT NSX Maintenance recomandation

Hello All

From your knowledge and experience, what are the maintenance recommandation you give to your customers about MCCB's when you design an equipment?

Your feedback is very important and helpful for us.

Thanks a lot.

Hello @Gregoire_Brun ,

Aren't there any recommendations made by manufacturers as Schneider Electric or others?

What about the warranty if customers don't follow them?

Hi Gregoire,

According to my experiences, there are some maintenance that can be propose to users :

A. For high current Circuit Breakers (LV / MV) :

  1. Preventive maintenance such as :
    1. Visual check (Contact wear, sign of Burned, leak, water, etc)
    2. Cleaning & re-greasing on the operating mechanism (moving parts)
    3. Some parts may need Electrical Grease (Finger Contact)
    4. Torqing on the bolt & nuts to avoid loosen connections that create heat. Consult manufacurer for torq value.
  2. Predictive Maintenance using Diagnostic tools
    1. Circuit breaker diagnostic tools to check any deteriorating performance parts (Opening & closing speed, over travel, maoin contact wear, etc)
    2. Check on the contact resistance
    3. Check on the tripping curve of the Tripping Unit.

B. For low current circuit breakers such as MCCB

  1. Preventive maintenance such as :
    1. Visual check (sign of Burned, leak, water, etc)
    2. Cleaning & re-greasing on the operating mechanism (moving parts)
    3. Torqing on the bolt & nuts to avoid loosen connections that create heat. Consult manufacurer for torq value.
  2. Predictive maintenance
    1. Using Thermography. With the thermal imaging camera or just spot measurement you can detect any potential problem such as loosen contact (higher heat on connections) or overload (heat on the MCCB).
    2. Some MCCB have internal embeded facility to check for the internal contact wear (Self diagnostic)
    3. Check on the tripping curve using Micrologic testing tools

The are many level of maintenance that can be done by user, trained engineer or by Manufacturer.

The Periodic maintenance Schedule is also can be defined based on criticality of the load.

Hope help.

Some interesting thoughts on this topic.

I never cease to be amazed that a customer buys a brand new LV switchboard and then hands over the maintenance to a contractor who cannot provide any evidence of manufacturers training or authorisation. When the works are completed the customer is left with very little or no evidence that the work has been carried out. Who would buy a brand new BMW and hand it over to a friend who is 'good' with cars to look after and expect BMW to pick up any warranty claims found by this 'friend'?

With the advent of the new range of communicating devices servicing of devices and service history should be much easier. Servicing could be monitored via the adoption of 'Service Centre' badges. EPC could be adapted to run a servicing regime on devices. This would leave a service history stamp on the device and upload service information to FE Logbook for the customer to access. All service steps could be incorporated into EPC., This would ensure a level is maintained and cannot be open to interpretation or confusion as to just what is required on a certain device.

Hi Peter

Your example of the car is good because even if you buy a Dacia or a Porsche, every year you go to the garage to change oils and make some maintenance checks. That's what we fiel for electrical device as something needed...
