M340 Serial Line Tranasactions and Errors

Using the Read_Var and Write_Var works great now I need to monitor the Message Count and Error Count to derive alarms. I see I can navigate to the Serial Port and visually see the counters but I would I gather these values to use in my logic. 

I first tried selecting the %CH under my BMX P34 2020 I/O Objects and downloaded the saved program to the PLC but the change did not occur. Is this option not available in the M340?

Looks like there is a IODDT T_COM_MB_BMX that will do what I need, how do I gain access to this IODDT?

I'm stuck and need some help.

I figured out how to view the T_COM_MB_BMX as a tag but when I pull up the animation table I get '#Err!#' in all attributes
