EcoStruxure Control Expert: IP Address limitations on M580 - Modbus connection

I am unable to enter a valid IP address of a Modbus Device.

Device IP: 10.72.0.68

PLC IP: 10.72.26.133 / 255.255.255.192 / 10.72.26.129

Attempting to enter 10.72.0.68 gives the error

"IP Address and Gateway address are not in the same domain".

Of course this is exactly what a gateway is for on the PLC's IP settings.

The client device IP is valid but as a client connection should not even have an option to enter a gateway let alone create its own random gateway address as Control Expert seems to do.

Does anyone have any idea how to get around this issue? doing the exact same on an NOC card works fine.

Any idea how to modify or remove gateway addresses from clients?

Are there any plans to fix IP addressing in the M580 / Control Expert.

Hi,

The subnet mask of 255.255.255.192 will divide the 10.72.0.0 network into 4 subnet of 64 addresses each.

Hennie_Smith_0-1760677789104.png

Your PLC is in the 10.72.0.128 - 10.72.0.191 subnet and the device is in the 10.72.0.65 - 10.72.0.126 subnet

To fix you can either change the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 or select address for the device in the  10.72.0.128 - 10.72.0.191 range.

Regards,

Hennie Smith

Not sure which version of Control Expert you are using but I am on version 16 and was able to recreate your configuration without problem. The project was build with a warning though.

You are correct saying:

There should not even be a warning. Control Expert should not care what is the gateway (or mask) on the remote Modbus device.

Unfortunately on this network I have to use that subnet as the traffic needs to go via the gateway.

hello, the subnet mask 255.255.224.0 allow the rang of ip from 10.72.0.1 to 10.72.31.254. but you need to put it on both equipement, and have to set a gateway on each logical network able to reach them.
