On previously opened projects (opening from .stu) the layout opens as previously saved. The problem is when creating a new project, opening from .sta, or just opening Control Expert itself (no project) the output window takes up the entire layout minus toolbars and there does not appear to be a way to switch windows or change the layout.
This appears similar to issue from FAQ (FA194380) with Unity Pro, but the fix listed there does not work for Control Expert.

Does the use of the ALT + 0 have any effect on toggling the window open or closed?
Where do you display messages? In the output window or a message box. You can change this in the options settings.

I get the same problem. The error messages etc. are displayed in the output window. The ALT + 0 key combination does work for toggling it open and closed, but the problem is that it takes over the whole screen. and not just a part on the bottom of the screen. There is no way to resize it at this point. Is there already a fix to this?

If you right mouse click in the frame of the window and display the options (Allow Docking (make sure this is turned on), Hide and Float in Main window) refer to the diagram below make sure the window is docked to the bottom of the window. If you still have the issue, please raise a technical support case this with your local country technical support team.
