Connecting nodes 50km away by optical fiber

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for advice on the best equipment to link several nodes that are separated by 50km with optical fiber.

I've found that the Modicon Switch MCSESM123F2LG0 with its 100/1000 SFP port and the Fiber optic adaptor for TCSESM switches - 1000BASE-LH, single mode TCSEAAF1LFH00 seems to be a good option.

However, the TCSEAAF1LFH00 is quite expensive (even more than the switch itself), which is inconvenient.

I'm wondering if there are any other alternatives that would be more cost-effective. Additionally, I've attached an image that highlights the installed PLC, which could potentially be replaced by a SE equivalent.

Thank you for your help and advice in advance.

Hello..

Really I don't know why this much price difference.

Just to have SFP module aligned and compatible with your switch, use SFP type of applicable speeds (100MB/s or 1000MB/s).

other types may not work.

Have you tested these for compatibility? I know a lot of switch manufacturers have vendor-locks innplace for SFP modules. In the past I have had problems getting third-party SFPs to work in Hirschmann switches, and Schneider switches are rebranded Hirschmann as far as I know (at least they were in the past).

Hi Patrick,

Your point is valid, but from my side the most important factor for compatibility is the supported speed of the switch port.

for me, I used 3rd party Transceiver on M580 HSBY CPU instead of (490NAC0100) recommended one and was working fine, just I selected the supported speed of 1GB/s the same as M580 HSBY port.
