Meters ION 7550 compatible with NTP server V4 ?

Hello,

for our next project we will buy and configure ION 7550 meters and my customer asks me if they are compatible with NTP V4 ?

Actually my customer has already a NTP server (release V4) and he wants to make sure that these ION 7550 will be able to synchronize with it.

Thanks for your reply.

Asking this is best in the HW forums.  Looks like you already have a thread there:

Our meters use SNTP for time synchronization. See below resl.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ref. to FA212330

Your customer can synchronize the ION7550 with the NTPv4 server that he already has.

Please note as well that NTPv4 is backward compatible.

RFC 5905 - Network Time Protocol Version 4: Protocol and Algorithms Specification

Extract from the above article:

"

NTPv4 introduces new functionality to NTPv3, as described in [RFC1305], and functionality expanded from Simple NTP version 4 (SNTPv4) as described in [RFC4330] (SNTPv4 is a subset of NTPv4). This document obsoletes [RFC1305] and [RFC4330].

While certain minor changes have been made in some protocol header fields, these do not affect the interoperability between NTPv4 and previous versions of NTP and SNTP.
