Use Current Sensors for an economical way to monitor electrical devices...
A beneficial way to determine proof of operation for fans, pumps and other electrical devices is to use a current sensor. If energy is being consumed and being detected by the current sensor, then it’s very probable that the equipment is performing the desired duty. The current sensor can even determine situational changes where a fan/blower is turning (consuming energy) but air movement is restricted. This could be due to a blocked duct or filter. That is because when no air is moving, there is lower than usual energy consumption, since the work of air movement has changed.
To accomplish this proof, install a current sensor on an electrical conductor to the device. Monitor the sensor and determine abnormal changes in energy. Take appropriate action.
There are many sizes, configurations, and features for current sensors. Schneider Electric has a broad selection of products and is widely known for reliability and overall value. You will find these products in the Field Devices catalogs for Sensors.
