Hello,
I'm new to Schneider's modicon plc's. so, needed some help with selecting a proper plc for 15 pid application.
detail:-
15 VFD's need to be controlled using 15 temperature sensors used in the field.
All 15 PIDs can operate independently or together depending upon clients requirement.
what I need to know is,
1) Is m221's TM221ME16R a suitable plc or I need to go for higher performance plc.
2) Do I use bus coupler (TM3BCEIP) for I/O expansion or transmitter (TM3XTRA1) and receiver (TM3XREC1) module.
3) As machine expert basic is free to use, does Schneider have a paid license version which I can give to end user or he uses the same free license version.
Thanks.

Hi,
TM221 is not the right coice for your application.
Because these controller support only up to 7 PID circuits.
You could find these information in the Online Help, I have attached a screenshot.
The combination with TM3 Bus coupler would be feasible, also with the the extender.
For your case the easiest solution would be to use a HVAC controller TM172,
There Software ESME HVAC is also for free but support all standart languages (IL,ST,FBD,LD) comparing to ESME Basic.
In my personal opinion this offers a easier way to programm your solution.
Further TM172PBG42RI offers at deault 12 Analog Inputs (which could be used for Temp sensor [PTC/NTC/PT1000] and 6 Analog Outputs.
If you want control all ATV via IOs you need additional Expansion moduls like in that case the 2x TM171EP27R. This is an older expansion but offers the highest number of Analog Output.
I would suggest it would be more effective to control the ATV via Modbus Serial. ESME HVAC offers a AFB to do this in a easy way. In that case you need only 1 expansion for Temp Sensors, that could be TM172E12R.
And ESME HVAC is not limitaded to the number of PID.
At least at TM17x you need to order the connectors seperate.
Did you know our Modicon configurator

Hello,
Other option is to complement your PLC using an external PID controller via Ethernet coms to adapt to any Schneider PLC you feel confortable.
For example Eurotherm EPC2000.
Regards.
