Fault code decoding - root cause analysis

 

Many are struggling with converting alarm codes from various vendor PLCs and equipment to sensible operator messages.

This is usually a comprehensive task that encompasses gathering fault codes from equipment PLCs, creating look up tables and other systems to convert alarm codes to comprehendible operator messages. Operations benefits from this information as it provides valuable information to keep a process running, however it requires a significant investment and efforts by subject matter experts.

 

We see the use of fault code->message conversion as a shortcoming in conventional thinking/approaches to root cause analysis. Therefore, the PLC-Easy solution does not use fault codes but automatically assigns sensible operator messages in the PLC code.
