Hello everyone,
I am at the point where I have done and tested all my 24VDC control wiring and configured the drive.
The problem that I am having is that my e-stop circuit is not working.
I wired the physical NC e-stop in series with R1A / R1C and STOA/B. See attached pdf.
When I hit the e-stop or remove the terminal block, I can see the STOA/B coming on and off in the SoMove software, but it doesnt trip the drive.
Is there a parameter that controls the function of the STOA/B?

I was able to resolve the issue.
Apparently the drive was stuck in an unregistered state.
I simply reset the Drive and Motor parameters to Factory in SoMove, modified the parameters for the test motor I was using, and I was able to stop the drive with STOA/B and control the motor FWD, RVR and use the potentiometer to vary the drive speed.
the only thing that isn’t working is the digital outputs, so I am working on resolving this also.

Hello,
Let's review how does it works. In fact STO (Safe Torque off) is connected to 24V means torque can be availble on motor side. Removing this connection will ensure there is no Torque on motor shaft (does not mean "stop" because the load can make motor shaft turning).
You can use this function if useful to ensure no torque on motor shaft, if no need, could be connected to 24V
Find following pictures of possible drawings in the installation manual. Could be management of power contactor, or Control management.

Thanks for this feedback.
It helped clarify my understanding of STO. In this application however, there is a brake that is powered directly off of the supply. So my thinking (in absence of a diagram), is that the brake will engage, once power is removed from the windings.
However, do you know if the drive should transition to a fault state or some other state, once the STO 24VDC is removed?
Because when I remove the 24, nothing happens.

Hello @EASI-JohnB ,
you can see it on HMI Drive state (on top left corner of HMI).
you can see list of drive state in programming manual.
regards,

Hi,
This drive doesn't have an HMI.
I am using SoMove to connect to the drive.

You can see the drive state in SoMove by connecting and activating the control panel if there is no HMI
.

In addition to my previous advises, let me explain you how it is possible to manage the brake according to the drives hoisting functions. To note the drive has brake logic control.
It means a relay of the drive can manage brake (directly or through a intermediate contactor), please note there is a dedicated note for this hoisting application (see my attachment).
You will get clear indications and information about sizing, mounting, wiring as well as settings.

Hey thanks for this!
Didn't realise there was a lower banner on that page.
Will check it out!

I was considering the hoisting mode for this application, but I prefer to keep it simple as possible at this point.
The brake from what I could tell is fully automatic and doesn;t require any external control. So there is no need for me to do any additional wiring or controls / programming.
My question remains...does STOA/B when activated (by removing 24VDC), generate any faults or better yet, does it de-energise UVW, that is, drive those outputs to zero?

Yes, when STO are de-energized, it will create a SAFF fault detection on the drive.
In the same time, the drive ensures no signal will be sent to the motor (safe Torque Off).
The way to reset will be a power off/on.

THANK YOU!
This more or less what I expected to happen.
Not sure why this drive is behaving like this.
Can the STO functionality be disabled?
Regards,
John

In case you do not need this Safety function (STO), the way is to by pass it by a permanent contact on 24V ( as shown on some wiring drawing inside the installation manual). Hope you will get satisfactory behavior...

There must be something wrong with this drive.
I don't think that there should be an option to disable the STO function.
I did not find any parameter that could enable or disable this function in the Programming Manual.
Removing and reinstating the 24VDC on STOA/B has no effect whatsoever on the drive.
Are you familiar with the consequences of a "Factory Reset" of the ATV340?

AS told, there is no way to disable this function, the only way if you do not need the function is to connect to 24V the STO terminals. When motor is running if you remove 24V from STO, you will get a SAFF fault detection.
Factory reset is a good way to go back after several test performed, finally you do not remember what you have modified, Factory settings allow you to stat again from a stable basis. Another possibility to see all modified parameters is to have a look inside the settings table of SoMove.
If you have a graphic keypad, you can also see mod. Parameters

Great to see you go forward. Thank you to let us know. In addition you could have a look on the video we have created. This one is on ATV340 start up but many others on different subjects are available.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07u-QhVLnGc
Some others are also talking on DI settings, may be on other ATV but you will find equivalence with ATV340. Look for "How to set DI on ATV" you will get many on ATV320 but some equivalence could be easily found too about your product.

Thanks for your time and help.
But I am left wondering what could be the issue?
perhaps SE engineering would want to review this.
Maybe the project file was corrupted somehow.
