Installing Geo SCADA Expert

An Installation Guide in pdf format is provided for users to walk through the process of installing ClearSCADA. It is available on the DVD - from the installer menu and in the Documentation folder.

Information on supported operating systems can be found in the Installation Guide along with suggested minimum PC specifications for differently sized databases.

Perform these as applicable to your system requirements.

Installing Geo SCADA Virtual ViewX Server (VVX)

If you wish to run the ‘VVX’ web server on the same host as the Geo SCADA server, it must be the same software version as the Geo SCADA server.

Installing OFS (Schneider Electric OPC Factory Server)

We removed the OFS installer from the Geo SCADA DVD in the 2021 release. There is a link on the installer menu screen to the OFS installer on the Schneider Electric web site. The current release of OFS from the SE web site can be licensed alongside Geo SCADA, as before.

To  use it:

1. Install the latest download from the SE web site, linked from the Geo SCADA ISO.
2. Choose the L (Large) edition of OFS
3. When you install please enter these details:

Part Number: TLXCDOFS

Serial Number: 12345678911

Licensing is validated when you run the OFS run-time once the Geo SCADA server has started.

Note that OFS needs the Geo SCADA server to be active, available on port 5481 and with a valid file or dongle license.

Adding an ODBC Connection

In order for third party applications (including Crystal Reports) to access the ClearSCADA server using the ODBC interface, a new Data Source (ODBC) needs to be configured.

• Open the Data Sources (ODBC) dialog from the Administrative Tools menu.
• Select the System DSN tab.
• Select the Add... button.
• Select the ClearSCADA Driver and select finish.

Some clients (for example SQL Server) will not handle the default ClearSCADA time value of 1-Jan-1601. For this type of client, enable the option to return uninitialized time values as NULL.

• Click on OK to complete the setup.

Allow Virtual Server Account services to run and access files

• From ClearSCADA 2017 the License Server for client licensing (plus Port Server and AEPrinter services) use virtual accounts. The "NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES" account should be assigned the "Log on as a service" user right, see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794944(v=ws.10).aspx for details on how to do this. Virtual accounts will not work without this. If this is not configured, an error will be shown in the Windows system logs. This virtual user also will needs to be granted permissions to read the directory where the license file is stored, if applicable.

Script Debugger Installation

ClearSCADA includes a Client Side Scripting feature. To make full use of this feature we recommend installing the Windows Script Debugger. This will allow you to interactively debug your scripts.
