PAS600 Communication Issue with 3rd party devices

Hi All,

We are facing issue while integrating 3rd party meters to PME through PAS600.

Even in modscan it is not giving data continuously(with in 10polls it is dropping 1 or 2 times), where as through RS485 to USB converter data coming continuously.

Custom file uploaded and Timeout changed to 1000ms,but issue is same.

Please provide a solution, if any one faced issue and resolved.

Hi @SureshYadavT ,
We were facing a similar issue with 3rd party devices. When connecting up to 14 or 15 devices, the polling went very smoothly and without any problems. But when more devices were connected, the polling suddenly became very slow and finally didn't work anymore. We also tried to play with the settings but without any success. In our case to provide a quick solution to the customer, we decided to split the bus into 2 lines with 2 seperate PAS, also when it is not ideal case.

hello @SureshYadavT ,

Can you provide details on the configuration of the devices in the PAS, are they configured in the PAS, if yes using a model or unknown device or you are using transparent gateway (nothing) ? How many devices do you have ? any modbus statistics available ?

Any issue on the serial line ( polarization, termination, etc...)

Can you provide the modbus diag ?

Kind Regards

hello @SureshYadavT,

Have you configured the devices in PAS or not ? (please show the PAS device page). Need to understand if you are using transparent gateway or not.

Can you show the the modbus stats (in communication ) or send the diagnostic_modbus.txt file from the full log ?

are you using switched port config ? If yes do you have modbus server enabled on ETH (normally yes) ?

Not sure to understand, when you poll 20 registers it is working from modcsan and PAS EWP, but for 10 registers I do not see if you get answer from the EWP ?

Might be easier for you to contact Technical Support.

Kind Regards

Hi @SureshYadavT,

"Custom file uploaded and Timeout changed to 1000ms,but issue is same."

  • PME is your monitoring system, so Custom Model on PME side is normally sufficient.
  • do you need also a Custom Models on PAS600 ? Panel Server Custom Model is needed when using PAS as a datalogger for data publication on our Cloud Services or on SFTP server.
  • Panel Server Custom Model is not really needed if PME is your monitoring application. Panel Server will be a transparent gateway between your Modbus serial devices and PME server.

Could be interesting to know what are the errors :

  • returned in the PME System Log (settings -> system -> system log).
  • logged by PAS600 (diagnostic_modbus.txt).

I understand you have multiple 3rd party devices connected to your PAS600 (device ID = 4, 5, 66, 89).

=> How many devices in your serial line ? Only 4 ?

=> Are these device IDs from the devices themselves ? Or Virtual IDs attributed by PAS600 when you declare a device on its Web interface ?

=> All the same device model / manufacturer ?

Modscan is connected to your PAS600 IP and you are addressing each devices as following:

  • ID 4 => @101 with 100 consecutive Holding Registers => 13 polls with 4 responses (31 %)
  • ID 5 => @101 with 100 consecutive Holding Registers => 18 polls with 14 responses (78 %)
  • ID 66 => @33 with 20 consecutive Input Registers => 250 polls with 250 responses (100 %)
  • ID 89 => @33 with 10 consecutive Input Registers => 56 polls with 0 responses (0 %)

Supposing ID 66 and 89 are the same ref of device:

  • For the device ID 89 => can you check if your device requires to poll a minimal quantity of registers ?
  • Did you try to poll ID 89 with 20 consecutive registers ?
  • Do you have issues when polling ID 66 with 10 registers ?

Supposing ID 4 and 5 are the same ref of device:

  • responses are not consistent... 31% and 78%
  • Modscan is addressing your devices individually (no consecutive requests by multi Masters). We expect similar Modbus responses... but it's not the case.
  • Check if the Modbus parameters are the same on your 3rd party devices.

What you can try during your Modscan testing with each device:

  • Align Serial parameters between PAS600 and downstream devices
  • Check if parity and stop bits are managed by your serial devices
  • Raise:
    • PAS600 Timeout setting to 5000 ms (in case serial devices have low comm performances)
    • Modscan Timeout to 6000 ms (must be higher than PAS600 timeout)
    • Modscan "delay between poll" to 1000 ms

Regards,
