Logging capacity (number of days) ComX510

Hello,

I'm trying to find some info about the logging capacity of the ComX510

I know if I got 1 device with 2 quantitys to log it's gonna take some serveral years to have a full memory

But is there some calculation to do to know exact how many dyas are left?

And what happens if the memory is full is this a FIFO?

We had this on the egx300 but can find it on the comX510

thankx

Hi Yves,

The Com'X510  can store 30 topics logging every 5 min for two years before it runs out of memory and start FIFO the data

Hope that helps you with your calculation

Best Regards

Hello Michael,

Is there something like a calculating tool for this? I have seen the formula:

32 Devices * 30 topics * 4 samples/hour (15 min interval) * 24 hours a day * 365 days per year * 2 year = 67.276.800 which guarantees 2 year historical data.

But what are topics? is one topic a parameter called for example kWh? Or is each parameter defined as the selected parameter in the list (kWh total, kWh phase 1, kWh phase 3) . For a BCPM 84 point it will mean that if you want to log the kWh you could either have one topic or 84 topics.

Unfortunately we have a customer who is working with a COMX510 with 9 x BCPMA084S where he wants to log kWh and kVA....

=> 9 devices * 168 topics * 4 samples / hour * 24 hrs a day * 365 days per year * 2 year = 105.960.960 ==> how many years?

Hope you can help

Hi Jun.

For maximum performance, we would not recommend any more than 2 BCPM's per Com'X.  In simple terms...this is due b/c the Com'X treats each of the BCPM connected circuits as a device.

The amount of storage is equal to...32 devices, 30 topics each at 15 minute intervals = 25 months of data.

The Com'X cannot store more than 25 months of data....this is static.  After 25 months, the data will FIFO.

James,

Admittedly, I have never even gotten close to the max logging cap, but I have been tracking this topic for a while. From what I found here https://community.exchange.se.com/t5/Gateways-and-Energy-Servers/Com-X510-Standalone-Logging-Time/td... , it indicates that ComX 510 max logging space is around 2G, and it also mentioned that "The calculation above can be adapted...adding more devices, and less topics plus longer intervals or some variation"

So, does the "25 months of data" is a software/firmware enforced cap, which no matter how little topics/devices are logged in ComX 510, it just simply cannot exceed 25 months logged data or should we continue to conduct the calculations considering the actual device number/topic/logging interval and the 2G max logging space?

Regards,

Hi James,

I know that you have recalled the max 2 bcpm during the webex. Unfortunately we were blind in the topology of the customer site but they mentioned that they normally used the egx300 and used it in various locations.  Luckily the interval they asked is just 1 time per day which means that a maximum performance could not be that critical. Eventually they want to check / export data every month.

I hope that there will be a good tool in future whichtakes exceptional products such as the BCPM into account so we could determine the max logging capacity of the COMX510

Correct...25 months is a static time-frame.  We may allow in the future a firmware change to increase the time period, but for now it is static.

Hi James,

I did raise the question of the logging capacity (we calculated to be 201,830,400 entries) of the ComX 510 and the prospect of upgrading the SD card (which we found that the unit only uses 2GB of space) back on 16th Jan 2016. The thread is Com'X510 Standalone Logging Time

Does the above 25 month limit supersede your previous insight into the devices where you stated in https://community.se.com/message/79855#79855

"The Com'X 510 can support 32 devices at 30 topics each at 5 minute intervals for 2 years of stored historical data.

The calculation above can be adapted...adding more devices, and less topics plus longer intervals or some variation."

That means that my conclusion later on in https://community.se.com/message/80270#80270

is not correct,

" If I were to do the following maths, (32 devices) x (30 topics) x (12 entries per hour) = 2 years

We derive a total of (32devices x 30topics/device x 12entries/hour x 24hour/day x 365day/year x 2years) = 201,830,400 entries (wow! 200 million entries ++)

Using the above base number, we should be able to freely determine the total logging time according to number of devices, topics, logging entries per hour, etc. Is this calculation reasonable?"

Hi, can I have the official documentation of COMX510 data looging capacity stating those calculation? My client requested this official document to be submitted.

We have configured comx510 at 5min logging interval (with 5 to 20 devices connected in each Comx510, each device having 15 topics) and he want to keep at least 3months data before FIFO.

Hello Team Com'X,

we are seeking answers to the above raised questions as well.

Where do we stand?

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

I can confirm after running the ComX 510 for over 2 years the following is true,

1) Logging limit of 2 year, first in first out. Does not matter how many variables you are logging

2) The number of variables logged and at what frequency determine how much memory will be consumed

    - 4GB of SD will almost certainly never be consumed

    - 40 topics at 1 minute logging for 2 years consumed 0.9GB (my unit is still saying it has 3.1GB free)

3) There is another thread that says the ComX 510 can only link up to 64 devices (32 on local RS-485 and another 32 via external Link150 aggregation). If that is confirmed, then we can safely say that the unit will never fill up and the full log retention period is 2 years, regardless of topics/max 64 devices/logging intervals.

Best Regards,

KK
