InsightHome Daily Report: It's Almost Useful, but Only Almost
In looking over the report that is generated each day from the InsightHome box for my inverter, I can learn that yesterday, for example, my system generated 14.1 kWh over the course of 24 hours. That's an almost helpful figure, but it leaves me wanting the answer to a very important question:
When?
One would think / hope / expect that a box that costs as much as the InsightHome device with seemingly nothing much else to do could make available to me statistics on the minute or sub-minute granularity. Failing that, however, just even knowing how many kWh were produced each hour would allow me to better understand the relationship between what I'm producing off the roof and what I'm consuming from the utility pole. I'd even be able to compute how much I'm saving, given most everything / everyone here in California is on TOU tariffs.
I'm glad to have the figure, but other than just knowing what I consumed for the day, it's not a very helpful singleton stat.
I do wish there were a way to get some more descriptive data out of the system. I'd looked before to see if I was somehow missing an option or two, but never was able to identify something that seemed to indicate it would help with this. Is there some way to get more granular information?
