ComX210 / 510 and Ad Hoc Connection

Hi everyone !

My need is to try CSV data publication on FTP server. But I do not have authorization to connect on the Schneider EUR Network.

To test publication, I decided to try to push the data on a local network.

I have 2 boxes:

  • 1 ComX210 with 1.4.3 FW
  • 1 ComX510 with R4 FW (0.4.12)

Under a Win XP machine, I have:

  1. created a local FTP Filezilla server
  2. set up a WiFi Ad Hoc network

But when I am trying to make the network commissioning, the Ad-Hoc network I've created is not recognized by my Com'X.

My question: Is it possible to connect a Com'X device to an Ad-Hoc network ?

Thanks for your help.

For the ad hoc WIFI, the method I described matches your need. The Com'X will provide the ad hoc network and the PC will to it.

It has a drawback: the ad hoc connection is unsecured and this is why it should not be used permanently.

So depending on your application criticity you use it or not.

You talked also about infrastructure mode. If you have the credencials to access a WIFI infrastructure network, why you not simply configure both your PC and the Com'X to reach it?

Regards,

Sylvain

Hi,

The Ad Hoc network must be created on the Com'X.

Steps:

  1. Ensure that the WIFI access point function is available in the settings
  2. Plug the Wifi dongle in the front-facing USB port
  3. Wait for the dongle to be recognised (button is blinking in orange)
  4. Press the WIFI access point button. It should now blink in green

Note: the purpose of the WIFI access point is to allow easy commissioning. It does not intend to be used as a permanent connection.

The WIFI infrastructure mode should be used instead for a permanent wireless connection.

Regards,

Sylvain

Hi Sylvain,

Thank you.

I understand, but my need is not to use WiFi point to point, but to make permanent WIFI publication on a local PC. I need to have permanent WiFi connection during at lease 4 days.

I want to push data on FTP permanently (each 2 hours) by using WiFi infrastructure mode. But ad-hoc network created on host PC is not detected by the ComX (Settings menu -> Network settings sub-menu -> WiFi only -> Select a WiFi network button).

Is this case possible ? For information, the host PC ad-hoc network is detected by my =S= laptop.

Do not hesitate to contact me if my request is not clear.

Regards.

Romain

OK thank you Sylvain.

I notice that it possible to use temporary WiFi point to point connection to push data on FTP server, but I will need WiFi infra to have permanent connection.

Regards.
