COM'x 200 Weak GPRS Signal

Hi ,

I have a COM'x200 installed in a  Carpark inside a switch room and It is just not able to connect to the FTP server.

We have tested in the lab and it shows successful publication to the FTP server.

The only reason I could see is the weak GPRS signal (2/4 at the site) and (3/4) in the lab.

We have used the extended antenna cable but have not been successful in improving the signal strength.

Alternative option is to extended the antenna to open area, which is 30 meters away and wondering if we could extend the length of antenna cable.

Any other ideas? anything else I can do to improve the signal strength. I don't want to have to install the COM'x200 outside in the open in the  carpark.

Brainstorming:

Have you tried using an external/industrial 3G router instead of the COM'X GPRS module (which I'm assuming you are using)? If you can, try the solution before purchasing

Have you tried using a different Service Provider? maybe others have better signal in the area...

You can extend the cable, but you'll have more loss in the signal, so the remedy might be worse...

Well, we bought COM'x200 with GPRS modem keeping cost in mind and we had tested  this in lab, which worked perfectly!

But yes the issue is the weak signal and we could potentially use other service providers, but we have a contract with this particular service provider.

I spoke to some people and extending the cable length is not really a good option, keeping in mind the antenna gain is pretty low 2.5dbi (mobile phones are around 2.2dbi). We may consider getting a high gain antenna (hope that works) and possibly gives an option to maybe extend the cable a little.

However, It would have been nice to have a high gain antenna with GPRS modem as in most cases COM'x200 would be installed in the switchboards room/locations where you may not find strong signal strength.
