What information do I need to configure the postgreSQL 9.1 database for Portal to work?

The machine that we had StruxtureWare Portal 1.0 on recently failed. After a clean installation of Windows I attempted to install Portal 1.0 from scratch. After the installation completed, I attempted to start StruxtureWare Portal and it could not find the page http://localhost:8080.  I checked the pgAdmin III application and noticed Under Server Groups there is no sever information.

pos

When registering a new server, what information is needed to fill this information out? What is the password for postgres maintenance DB?

We have access to the Data Center Expert 7.2.0 but would like to use Portal as well to Monitor it closer. Is there any documentation that could assist me in getting this configured.

Hi Jason,

It seems the Portal installation have not been successful, so I would suggest to remove the current installation, and preferably install the latest version (currently 1.3.2):
StruxureWare Portal v1.3.3

But before starting the installation, I would check the following:
Check if firewall in not preventing the installation or blocking ports. Following ports should not be blocked: StruxureWare Portal using port 8080 (default) and postgresql using port 5432.
Check if antivirus is not preventing the installation or start of services.
After a successful installation, verify if the portal related services are running: ex. Windows Administrative Tools > Services > "postgresql" and "StruxureWare Portal"

Hope this helps,
Kind regards

I have confirmed that nothing is blocking the installation or the ports. When I go into services, StruxtureWare service is not started but their is no PostgreSQL service listed. What could be the reason? Could it be the pgadmin II does not have a server configured?

Hi Jason, There are strong indications that the Portal installation have not been successful on your server (by the way what is version of your Windows server?) I would try the following steps to re-install: 1. Un-install StruxureWare Portal (ex: C:\Program Files\StruxureWare Portal\uninstall.exe) 2. If not removed already, then delete the 'struxureware portal' and the 'postgresql' directories from the Program Files folder 3. Remove the postgres account, assuming you do not have any other application using the postgres database. This can be done from the command prompt, eg open cmd and run the following command: net user postgres /del 4. restart the workstation 5. Install StruxureWare Portal 6. To avoid any java related issues, I would try to remove all versions of the installed java, and let Portal install whatever needed to be installed. Kind regards

Jef, I have done all these steps as I found these step in another post you answered. But I am still unable to install properly. When i uninstall it I always remove the version of java I have and then follow your steps. I am not using windows server. i am using an installation on Windows 7. Based on the system requirements I can use Windows 7.

Hi Jason, That's correct, Portal can be installed on a dedicated Windows 7 machine as well (I have tested this recently without any problem). I understand you have a clean installation of the Windows at the moment, so I would try to run a "windows update", and then re-install the Portal. It might be the case that due to some windows 'application' dependencies the postgresql is not being installed/configured correctly, so it is worth to give it a try with windows updates. Kind regards

I've done the updates on all of the windows 7. Restarted computer, uninstalled Portal, removed user, restarted workstation, installed Portal and still no service for postregql installed. I am going re-download Portal v1.3.2 and try and reinstall.

Thank you for all your assistance Jef. I was able to get it installed properly now. Not sure what the issue was. I reimaged the machine once again and the install went as expected.
