Update IPAddress into DCO

Hello

I have Customer properties that name IP .

My Goal get all IP from my customer properties and set to IPAddress field into DCO and after that delete this customer properties .

For this issue I have tried a few ways and unfortunately I didn’t find how I can set value to IPAddress into DCO .

I have checked ETL exportDB/ImportDB , but didn’t see fields IPAddress into export/import DB.

Also I have checked RESTAPI /search assets and others function . Any the function didn’t get IPAddress .

  1. How I can get IPAddress from DCO DB ?
  2. How I can set/update IPAddress filed into DCO DB ?

Hi Boris

Why do you want to change from using Custom property for recording your IP address?  CPs are good for IPs because you can specify they're an IP4 or IP6 format, you can specify unique (to get a dup IP warning), they can be updated via old SOAP API and new REST API.  But they may not suit your business need.  Put another way, is DCO to be your authoritative source of truth for device IPs or is it some other system?  How many IPs do you have to change?

In my DCO 8.2 there is no field "IP Address" for the asset, rather, an IP address can be set for each individual NIC port.  Is this what you're seeing as well?

If so, do you already have one or more NIC ports for each device that has a Custom Property IP address?

When you checked the ETL Import DB did you look at the schema  on your DCO server or check the doco on the SE web site?  Sometimes the doco differs a little from version to version.  There's a column "ci_ip_address" in the configuration_item table but i expect that this will only update the IP address of the external associated device with your DCO device.

So there are several ways

To illustrate, here's the General tab of a Dell Server (no IP address)

And here'a the External Systems tab of the same saver (showing IP address)

And here's the Network tab showing where IP addresses can be placed for each NIC

When I manually add the same IP from the associated device, I see the following

And here's the device mouse over showing both the Associated device IP and the old Custom Property.

Cheers

I hope that helps

Hi Boris

What version of DCO are you using?

It's been a while since Ive played with ports and IP addresses

I do see ci_ip_address  configuration_item on my IMPORT db but I'm not sure what this does?

I do not see ci_ip_address in configuration_item on my DCO 8.2.7 EXPORT db.

Cheers

Ed

The version of the DCO is 8.2.7 and we don't find this field too .

And by the way, I recall you can set a DCO preference to have the device mouse over display External System properties so that's another way you can show IP.

Boris

If you've completed this task pls post your decision and outcome here so others may benefit.  thanks

Ed

Many thanks Ed

I didn't understand if I can look the IP address the I set into Network properties of the device in ci_ip_address field  in the configuration_item table on ETL export.

Also Can I change/replace this field via Import ETL ?
