Hi Team,
Just a quick question to verify some tests I have done today.
I am fairly sure this is correct but please do offer your feedback and confirm my understanding as this is required for a project activities we are undertaking shortly.
To my understanding and based on my quick test and previous knowledge Virtual Devices act as a normal device in DCE meaning that they will retain its sensor history from the day they get created until they get deleted.
History will be retained even if the Virtual Device configuration was changed along the way and the original sensor source is no longer monitored by DCE.
Scenario:
Screen capture of DCE historical report attached:
Please advise if my understanding is correct.
I need to be confident that I will not lose historical data of a Virtual Device even if the source of data changes as per above example.

Hi Lukasz Staciwo,
Please advise if my understanding is correct.
I need to be confident that I will not lose historical data of a Virtual Device even if the source of data changes as per above example.
Everything is absolutely true and tested by me for almost five years.
Moreover, you can remove all physical sensors from the virtual device. In this case, the virtual device will not show any historical data at all. But if after some time, even a very long time, to add to this virtual device any appropriate physical sensor again, you can see all the historical data that once belonged to it.
Therefore, I have been using virtual devices for a long time and successfully 😀.
With respect.
