Removing a network connection in a work order

With regards to work orders, I’ve found the process for adding devices and connections to be useful.  The software reserves the space for the device and connections, and then once the various tasks in the work order are completed, those devices and connections become      permanent.  But I’ve found the reverse to not work the same way.  I tried creating a work order to remove connections from a device. The issue was that the connections were removed while the work order was being created, as opposed to remaining in place until the work order tasks were completed. This could lead to an issue where a new piece of gear is assigned to a port before the port is cleared from a  previous work order to clear the port. Could you let me know if there is a better way to go about removing connections and devices to prevent this from happening?

Hi Justen,

Network connections in DCO are not physical items (such as cables in real model) and basically therefore when adding and/or removing connection(s) as work order, they will be added/removed during the work order creation itself. However, adding or removing the connection should be captured as a work order task.

As illustrated in the following image, when when creating a work order to remove a connection, right click on connection, and choose the option "Mark for Deletion"

that should be (similar to adding a connection) capture as work order task with description "Disconnect network between ..."

As mentioned, connection would be removed right away, but work order task should be captured

There is no intelligent checks behind the work order/task creation when adding and/or removing a connection.

 I guess a workaround for this would be to put the cable back in place after it has been marked for deletion and the work order is closed. The customer request is to make sure that the port stays occupied so it is not assigned to another server between the time of creating the work order and having it completed.
