Is it allowed to use a Y-splitter RJ-45 on a smart-x controller. Someone in our office did this and they said it worked. I was wondering if this was fully supported in the spec and if this is a bad practice to do.
I do not have any smart-x controllers on hand to test.
But, It seems like a smart and efficient way to expand a network without adding a powered switch as it will use one pair per split port. and limit speed to 100mbps max per port.
Thoughts?

Hi @Nicholaus,
You might have better luck asking this question in the EcoStruxure Building Operation forum here: https://community.se.com/t5/EcoStruxure-Building-Operation/bd-p/ecostruxure-building-forum

Hi,
Using a 'splitter' is like using a hub, traffic is broadcast to all ports, where a switch will only broadcast to the port with the device on to be talked to, its a digital switchboard.
Best place to start is probably the IT planning guide. https://ecoxpert.se.com/search?documentUUID=c884a950-2524-4a74-b31d-c773c7e06598&title=IT%20System%2...
On of the features of SmartX controllers, is the use of RSTP, then here I would doubt it would work, however I've not tried it.
As a one off, and it works, fine. Having a robust network with is part of a good solution.
BTW, the EcoStruxure Building Operation Forum would be the correct place for the SmartX product.
