Power Path Issue

When our customer adds an AP8886 PDU to a rack on DCO, the PDU automatically keeps only the 115V voltage output on its properties and it cannot be edited. Since the installation is in Europe, the voltage should be 230V.

This results in having to go on each IT equipment properties to add the 115V voltage input, in order to be able to connect it with the PDU. Please note that the PDU on Genome Library has both 230V and 115V available voltage outputs, but when it is added to a rack, it keeps only the 115V option.

The power path behind the AP8886 PDU is as follows:

3-Phase UPS => Generic 3P Power Panel => 32A 3P Circuit Breaker => PDU (AP8886)

Could please provide your insight about the issue?

Hi!

Check output voltage on Generic 3P Power Panel, under power tab, it should be set to 400V/3Ph. Than you should connect servers without problems.

In this case, will I be able to add both 16A 1P and 32A 3P generic breakers on the breaker panel?

Hi Nikolas,

You do not need to specify the Voltage Outputs for the rack pdu (AP8886), it gets its settings from its power source (PDU). You need to correct the power settings on the PDU.

I guess, your PDU > Power "Output voltage" is something like 230(115), which limits the connected rack pdu to support 115 V.

As illustrated, the Power Output voltage on PDU is set to 230(115) V, then the connected rack pdu's voltage outputs would be 115 V:

If I go ahead and change the PDUs Output voltage to 400 V, then the connected rack pdu would be changed to the supported 230 V:

Kind regards

On the Generic 3P Power Panel, we have selected the 230(115)V voltage option, because it is the only 3-phase voltage option that lets us add both 32A 3P Generic Circuit Breakers and 16A 1P Generic Circuit Breakers that we actually have.

We do not have an intermediate PDU between the Breaker panel and the Rack PDU. We only have the Rack PDU (AP8886).

Hi Nikolaos,

AP8886 is a 3 phase rack pdu (see the product description here: https://www.apc.com/shop/lv/en/products/Rack-PDU-2G-Metered-ZeroU-22-0kW-32A-17-3kW-24A-230V-30-C13-...), it takes 400 V 3-Phase as input, and since it only has single phase outlets the output is going to be 230 V single phase.

Similar discussion have been posted here: rPDU proper Power Path, and explained why you should not use the 230(115)V settings on the PDU.
