Hi,
I need to install a new disk in my AP9465 DCE server. Do I have to have an exactly equal disk to the original or can I use a an approximately equal one ?
If so, in what Linux version do I need to format the disk ?
Best regards

Hi!
Do you want to replace existing HDD or add one more?
If you want to replace it, you just need a SATA disk with the same size or bigger.
First of all create a backup if it still possible. After that create bootable USB stick with DCE restore image and use it to restore system. Then restore created backup.
If you want to add additional drive - it's not supported.

Hi, thanks for feedback.
I just want to replace an defect disk with a new one with the same size (250Gb). It is also the same vendor as the old one (WD). The issue is when I boot on the USB disk it is loading some initial files into RAM and when it start to save on the disk the server is rebooting. I have tried several times but the same is happening every time. I have partition the disk as with xFAT format and nothing more. Should I format it with Linux ?

Dear Morten Skjonhaug,
From your question:
...I have partition the disk as with xFAT format and nothing more. Should I format it with Linux ?
The new HDD does not need to be formatted at all - the DCE software does this automatically during the restore procedure (from iso-image) or after adding an additional HDD to the server.
...The issue is when I boot on the USB disk it is loading some initial files into RAM and when it start to save on the disk the server is rebooting.
It sounds like a server hardware issue, but not a HDD. Therefore, for the AP9465 DCE appliance, you need to download (use the Service Tag of your DELL server) from the DELL web-site the iso-image of DELL Support Live Image 3.0 (SLI_3.0.0_A00.iso) and perform detailed diagnostics of your server's hardware:
Support Live Image 3.0 is a CentOS 7.4 image that packages a collection of utilities and diagnostic tools for Dell PowerEdge Servers, Dell PowerEdge C Servers, and Dell PowerVault Storage Systems. It provides an environment for the tools to run to troubleshoot hardware-related issues and gather system configuration information. The results of the diagnostic tests and configuration information are sent to the technical support team to identify and resolve an issue.
If you have any more questions, please ask.
With respect.
