NetBotz Room Monitor 755 - Private LAN Interface

Hi,

I have an installation of x10 NetBotz 755 Room Monitors across different locations who are connected to Cisco SG550XG-8F8T 16-Port 10G switch stacks and I'm seeing what appears to be a negotiation issue but only on the Private LAN port on the 755 on all of them. The connected port on the SG550 keeps dropping and reconnecting with no apparent regularity and the frequency is different across each installation, some are every few minutes, others can be a few hours.

I've added a diagram to show how I have the 755 and other APC devices connected to the SG550 and (to me anyway) it couldn't be simpler, I've also included the issue I'm seeing on each of the switches.

I wanted to ask if there was any way of clamping that port to a fixed speed/duplex to help with my investigation as I can't see anything in the GUI and no matter which option I try on the SG550 it either doesn't connect at all or flaps up/down. I can only get it to connect when I clamp the SG550 at 100 Full even though according to the 755 documentation the private port should be auto 10/100/1000.

TIA

Hello @M_Richards,

I am not aware of any way to lock down the 755 private network to a specific speed.  I would recommend reaching out to technical support to discuss this topic as I am not sure this would be a supported solution.

From my experience the private network is used to connect to only a few devices (max 4 cameras) directly, not to be connected through a one more more switches.  Technical support would be able to confirm if your solution design would be supported.

Kind Regards,

Cory

Hi,

Thanks for the reply but the installation guide specifically states on page 16 that you can connect downstream devices and further mentions on page 27 that you can do so via a switch

"connect the devices to your appliance through a Private LAN port. You can
connect a network switch or hub to the Private LAN port to connect up to ten
downstream devices, including up to four cameras. Performance may vary depending
on the amount of video recorded or the number of sensors attached to your
downstream devices."

I've recently installed a small Netgear 8 port switch between the NetBotz and Cisco SG550 to see if it has made any difference and I'm not seeing any interface drops at all now so I believe the issue is entirely related to a negotiation mismatch.
