Is there a way to route a network connection to two different ports on the same device?

I have several network connections, either jumpers or interconnects, that connect to different ports on the same device. When I try to route them in DCO the device is not available once I choose the first port. Is there a way to override this and make the device available for the end item?

Hi Jeff,

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by connecting to different ports on the same device?

I would still imagine this being a 1-1 port connection from one device to another?

In general DCO will allow to create routes between ports on equipment. That being a 1-1 connection between physical ports. I've created a small example of a server connected to the same switch via patch panels in both racks.

I'm not sure but it could sound like only 1 port has been specified on the device you are trying to connect to?

The network functionality is described in the following: Managing Network Configurations with a number of subpages.

Here is an example of what I'm trying to accomplish. I have a Cisco Nexus 7000 9-slot switch that is sectioned as 2 virtual switches, a primary and OTV. In order the 7000 to differentiate between the 2 virtual switches there is a connection on the 7000 that runs from port 1 on slot 4 to port 20 on slot 4. I am trying to show that connection in DCO Network Management. However, after I choose port 1 on the 7000 and try to choose port 20 as the end item, the 7000 is no longer an available choice. Every other device in the rack is shown except for the 7000.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for elaborating. That describes the problem.
Unfortunately this is currently not possible to fully model in DCO network management.

I have some suggestions that could function as a work around:

1) Use the description field to describe the connection. That would not as such occupy the port however when trying to connect using the network management routing tool the description fields is shown indicating that the ports are in use.

2) Create an extra blade that would function as half of the slot 4. Not sure if there is a logical split in your setup I have just tried to create a blade having port 20. It will look something like this:

(You might want to create a new enclosure as well that would allow half size blades. Then also changing the blade to be half size for slot 4 only would mean that having the extra blade would not occupy space in the enclosure.

I will also track your setup in our enhancement database.

Hi Soren, is this a feature that is going to be included in a future release because I have this problem as well? Our scope doesn't just include devices but also patch panels. We have a six port PP in each rack that ties back to our copper consolidation rack. To save space within this rack, we have used a 24 port PP and divided it into 4 six port sections (4 racks to a PP). Unfortunately if the two racks we want to connect are using the same PP then DCO won't allow us to complete the connection.

Hi Jason, I will add your well described scenario to the feature request. I cannot promise this will be in the next release but for sure it is being prioritized against other requests to go into a future release.
