I have some equipment that is on a shelf attached directly to a wall. What is the best way to represent this on my floor plan?

I do not believe its possible to mount a shelf by itself as shelves in DCO are rack mountable devices.
You could however take a rack object, edit its dimensions (width and depth) to match your shelf then use a rack shelf to simulate what you're trying to do as items can then be placed on the shelf.
I mocked an example where I created a rack which is 48 inches wide, 18 inches deep and placed a rack at the approximate height. You can see in this 3D view image it looks like a shelving unit ... but not a standalone shelf.
It should be possible to place assets on this shelf at this point.
