How to reduce the DCE snmp trap size

Hi guys,

Our customer has implemented a sending SMS server which is converting DCE snmp traps to SMS.

Some traps cannot be converted due a trap size exceeded. It's possible to cut the trap to reduce its size?

Hi Enric,

There is no way to reduce the trap size. DCE sends traps with quite a bit of information as per k-base FA231439. The devices themselves however will likely send less information. If the NMS integration or SNMP trap alarm action are both too large for your SMS translation, perhaps the traps direct from the devices will work better.

You can mass configure APC devices through DCE to send SNMP traps. Even on a hardware server with devices on the private LAN (and with DHCP enabled) the devices can send through DCE as long as DCE is properly configured as the device's default gateway. You would have to configure any 3rd party devices manually. Any virtual sensors or modbus devices would not work for this option though.
