I want to do a packet capture from DCE to a SNMP device so thought about installing Wireshark, or another pack capture program, are there any instructions on how to do this?
The device is not responding to a request and want to rule out any FW issues.

Hi James,
We don't provide access to the root of DCE so nothing can be installed on the system. There's already a process (tcpdump) on the system but it is not accessible except for remote tech support use should you provide such access.
What type of "request" are you trying to make from the system, HTTPget? SNMP? Modbus?

Steven Marchetti It's a SNMP request. There are a number of network hops to go through so I wanted to see where/if it was getting stuck.
Happy to facility remote tech support to run tcpdump

Hi James,
You can contact support but also, if you're running an SNMP discovery and that's failing, DCE 7.6 has on it's web page an SNMPwalk utility if you go to the Status menu and look under Additional Information. Using that status menu, there are also other network troubleshooting options such as ping, traceroute, and netstat.
That's all assuming you can access the device with the same community strings using your computer and another SNMP utility.
If you're not seeing specific sensors, that's likely a DDF issue but if the device doesn't discover, the following k-base might help and does also mention running packet captures.
http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA226273
You may also want to connect a computer up to the same switch as the device and configure the port you're on to mirror the device port so you can see the traffic at that end. You could also do that at the switch DCE is plugged into if you have access to those switches.
Thanks,
Steve.

Steven Marchetti - Thanks for the info, I have run a traceroute from the DCE webpage. This is a network issue rather than a DDF one.
